Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese Art that uses trigger points to harmonise the life energy in the body.  Born of innate wisdom and passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, the Art had fallen into relative obscurity when it was dramatically revived in the early 1900's by Master Jiro Murai in Japan.

After clearing himself of a life-threatening illness, Master Murai devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu, gathering insight from a range of experiences and resources, including the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things). The resulting knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu was then given to Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the United States in the 1950's.

Mary Burmeister (1918-2008) began teaching the Art to others in the early 1960's, and today there are thousands of students throughout the UK, Europe, the United States, Canada and around the world discovering these ‘Flows of Life’

Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the body's energies which in turn promotes better all round health and well-being and facilitates our own profound healing capacity. It is such a valuable complement to conventional healing methods, for reasons of relaxation as well as reducing the effects of stress.

Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six "safety energy locks" along energy pathways that feed life into our bodies. When one or more of the paths becomes blocked for whatever reason, the resulting stagnation can disrupt that area of the body and eventually disharmonize the complete path of energy flow. Holding these energy locks in combination can bring balance to mind, body, and spirit.

If you' think you would benefit from a Jin Shin Jyutsu session, simply Google Jin Shin Jyurtsu and the area in which you live to locate nearby practitioners.

Practical Jin Shin Jyutsu by Alice Burmeister with Tom Monte

Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese practice that balances the body’s energy using fingers and hands.  I bought this book  in 1998 and read it right through.  At the time I was in the process of becoming a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu. The meaning of each energy lock has immeasurable significance and the book is on my bedside table so I can continually refresh my knowledge of  this ancient art.

This comprehensive guide explains:

  • The energy pathways in your body and the 26 sites where this energy is concentrated
  • Methods that allow you to release vital energy flow in parts of your own body or another person’s.
  • The five imbalances that block and reduce energy, and the simple steps you can take to overcome them.
  • First aid and on the spot healing for colds, high-cholesterol levels and blood pressure, allergies, back tension, menstrual pain, headaches and other ailments.

Given five books to take to a desert island, this would definitely be one of them.

There are other books on the subject by Jin Shin Jyutsu trainers I have worked with but I haven’t read them so I can’t comment on them individually.
