Wildwood: A Journey Through Trees

Roger Deakin

The late Roger Deakin, author, filmmaker, broadcaster and environmentalist shared a passion for nature. Through these 34 themed essays he successfully promotes "...a feeling for the importance of trees through a greater understanding of them....of each individual tree and each kind of tree."

His book is a superb read - lyrical, literate and full of social and historical insights. Deakin saw 'sustainability' as a vile word and pointed out that trees are the greatest single absorber of surplus carbon monoxide that is supposedly warming up the world. He proposed more hedgerows, less barbed wire fences.

Anyone studying  the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine  will gain a completely new perspective on the Wood Element, from roots to leaves through the awesome properties of many great trees.

Sadly Roger Deakin died in 2006, before Wildwood was published.
