Most people in the west have a lack of sulphur and magnesium in their diets. Cacao is a great source of these elements and is perhaps the most concentrated source of magnesium of any food -which could be why women crave chocolate (even more!) during their menstrual period. Cacao in its raw state – the ‘nibs’ is a wonderful source of these nutrients and so versatile with food. Our cacao sources are all organic.
Further Info Monoamine oxidase inhibitors present in cacao help neurotransmitters such as seratonin, anandamide snd dopamine, to function properly in the blood. A side effect of this is that our digestion works better and we stop feeling hungry.
Just chewing the nibs gives you a boost to your energy. They have a lovely, slightly bitter dark chocolate taste, with no side effects. Add them to muesli, or sprinkle onto fruit. You can use the ground cacao powder as you would cocoa, sweetening it with agave syrup to make hot chocolate, adding it to bananas and yogurt for a delicious smoothie or mix it with agave syrup and tahini and dried fruit – dates, apricots, goji berries - to make raw truffle recipes.
